Final Reflection

I enjoyed this online class very much! I will go back and use these resources regularly. I feel every educator should be required to take this class. Jerrie Cheek rocks! Thanks to all my fellow classmates as well!

I enjoyed exploring Ning. However, I agree with Sylvia that the time it takes to view and explore is time consuming. Ning reminds me of a “facebook” for educators.  I clicked on the forum and found a question about getting a masters degree online. The replies were very interesting and I found it useful personally. I would use Ning in the future if I had a question or wanted to get ideas.

A favorite article I read this week from Google reader, is “Spotting Depression in Adolescents” by: Tara Parker-Pope.  This is a concern to me at this age.  I learned the acronym HEADSSS  H-Home E-education & employment A-activity D-drugs S-Sex S-Suicide S-Safety. Great article for all educators. http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/12/07/spotting-depression-in-adolescents/

I just spent hours setting up my pageflake. It is now my homepage. I enjoyed putting  in my favorite interests.  This would benefit teachers in a huge way of multi tasking. As soon as my page is complete, I will share.

Google Docs seems very universal. One problem I have always had was that I would send a document via email and someone could not open it. I was actually considering purchasing Microsoft office to avaoid this from happening. Google Docs can allow me to create, send and save hassle free. I look forward to exploring more! I would use Google Docsin the classroom for teaching graphs, organizing lesson plans and presenting a presentation slide show about a new topic being introduced!

This is an amazing video of Martin Luther King. There are so many ideas and information out there using teacher tube. I prefer using teachertube over youtube because it seems quicker and safer.

To be honest, I have not really thought about using podcast in education. I had fun looking at the different categories in elementary subjects. I chose to listen to The Education Podcast Network . After listening to “This week in Science” Broadcast, I realized how I could have younger students listening to a broadcast individually during centers. As an elementary teacher, we are always trying to find educational tools to teach students while the teacher may be working with others. I have used Itunes for personal use. I know set up a subscription to download sermons from my church! This is great!

The Library is going to be very useful for me. I am not a HUGE reader. However, before I buy a book, I want to know what everyone thinks about it. Forget AMAZON…Hello Library Thing. What amazes me is how all of these helpful programs are FREE. I tend to get hooked on a particular author and want to search other books by the same. I think this will be great when teaching so you can see reviews of others before reading. I am also an ORGANIZED freak so I am in heaven!

I love delicious! I wish I would have found out before now. I spend hours searching for websites that I have used in the past. This morning I had fun looking into all the bookmarks others have. I look forward to adding tagging more sights and organize my own. This will help with all the education websites I can suggest to my parents…..

I chose to explore Tadalist.com

http://tadalist.com

This is an easy way of making “to-do” lists. I am a very organized “list” person. I feel that if I have everything written down, I can check it off when completed and feel accomplishment. As an educator, it is very important for students to be organized with their school agendas.  By using this website, you can creat weekly homework or class task that each student is responsible for doing. Maybe they could get them signed by the parents so everyone knew exactly what the student was responsible for accomplishing that week! I love this and will use this persoanlly as well.
